May in Southern California

Jacarandas are blooming, graduation gowns are arriving, the weather is warming up, and more FOR SALE signs are going up. It must be May in Southern California!

It's the season for home sales to jump, and for people to start thinking about housing for the high school grads heading off to college, homes for the college grads thinking about coming back home to live, and where to move the family before school starts in the fall, if a move is needed.

Last month I wrote about how homes listed in May tend to sell faster, historically speaking. It's really the kick-off season for the busiest time in real estate, across the country, that continues through September. The best time to sell is whatever is the best time for you. You have more buyers out this time of year, and you have serious buyers, who can't wait for a season, who are out the rest of the year.

Non-real estate related are all the other things going on this month in the area: It's graduation for many of the universities, with CSULB Commencement ceremonies held May 23-26. It's Pride Month, with Long Beach Pride events May 20-21. The Scuba Show comes to the LB Convention Center May 6-7. The 6th Annual West Coast BBQ Classic returns to the Queen Mary on May 13. Mother's Day is May 14th, and many local restaurants have brunches - get your reservations now! The first Stroll & Savor of the season is May 17-18 on 2nd Street in Belmont Shore. It really is the merry month of May!
